Keeping Your Pets Happy and Healthy During the Holidays

pet immune health

As the weather becomes cooler and seasonal allergies take over our day-to-day lives, it’s essential to remember that pets also need a little TLC this holiday season! Similar to humans, most of your quadruped companions’ immune systems are in their gut, which is also the largest immune organ in their body. During the winter months, when your immune system is lower than the rest of the year, maintaining your health is key to having a happy holiday season. Here are a few tips to keep your pets healthy, safe, and happy this holiday season.

Probiotics Are Your Friend

First things first, probiotics (such as supplements) should be your go-to when it comes to immunity and digestion this holiday season. Probiotic supplements may help prevent illnesses and increase your pet’s lifespan thanks to their ability to detect pathogenic microbes from establishing a home in your pet’s digestive tract. However, for probiotics to work their magic, a diverse array of microbe strains is crucial.

Consistency Is Crucial

Just like humans, pets also need a consistent, personalized diet at every meal. Changing their food habits abruptly can cause diarrhea and other maladies. Consider adding more “cultured” vegetables into your pets’ diets for an extra boost of antioxidants, bioactive molecules, and microbes because these veggies are considered raw and “raw diet” friendly.

Cleanliness Is Key

As obvious as it may sound, keeping your pets’ surroundings clean and sanitized is an important step to diminishing the influence of allergies and other illnesses this holiday season. Even just vacuuming and sweeping the area regularly can get the job done!

Expect The Unexpected

If you plan on traveling during the holidays, pets are not likely to stay on their everyday routines, which can cause an upset stomach or a bladder infection. This is usually because of E. coli buildup – you can help prevent this by using probiotics called Phages.

Because pets are creatures of habit, it may be overwhelming for them to adapt when their routine is upset during the holidays. Regardless of what your pet’s situation may be, take time out of your busy day to reassure them that they are safe and loved. While we hope that your pet won’t fall ill during such a festive time of the year, we always have our doors open to treat your pet when they are under the weather.
